The round marks Whop’s second $200 million funding event this year.
Palo Alto, California-based Whop has secured $200 million in a Series D funding round that brings its valuation to $5.1 billion. The investment, made public on October 21, was co-led by Sequoia Capital and Shopify Ventures.
During the three months leading up to the investment, the company introduced Economic Intelligence, a decision-making engine built on millions of transactions. The tool evaluates businesses and suggests the highest-return next steps. Merchants pay for access by sharing an extra percentage of the revenue generated through the system, aligning the product’s cost with its performance.
In that same timeframe, Whop rolled out the Whop CLI, allowing any artificial intelligence agent to utilize its API so operators can manage their enterprises using simple prompts. The company characterizes this API as a complete operational interface. Combined with the platform’s MCP connectors, the CLI handles upwards of 350,000 daily calls, while monthly active users exceed 14,700. A third product, Business Blueprints, sets up a ready-to-launch business with just a few clicks; according to the firm, more than 21,000 businesses were launched using the feature over a six-week span.
Whop provides business owners with a gamified dashboard and a robust API covering money, business creation, and distribution. The firm states that about 25,000 operators pull in $550 million monthly on the platform, while upwards of 50,000 additional individuals earn a monthly wage working for those companies. Its user base spans everyone from product leads at fast-growing startups to 16-year-old entrepreneurs launching their first venture, with operations facilitating over $7 billion in on-platform transactions across 185 countries.
“We take inspiration from the traditional economy in designing Whop, and because businesses are the primary conduit by which people earn money and create value, we focus on them as our primary customer,” stated Steven Schwartz, co-founder and CEO.
Whop noted that the majority of merchants on its platform cater to highly niche markets, highlighting examples such as emergency tree removal operations, data providers for humanoid robotics developers, billing software for the trucking sector, neobanks tailored to dropshippers, and private jet reservation services.
In the funding announcement, Sequoia Capital partner Doug Leone remarked: “They’re doing about a half billion revenue, business is doing great, and we’re helping humanity create businesses for people who can’t find a job.”
Referencing a Forbes study in its announcement, Whop pointed out that artificial intelligence is disrupting conventional career paths and pushing entry-level employment options to historic lows. The company aims to provide everyone with a sustainable income, positioning its platform as a way for individuals to take charge of their financial destinies.
Whop stated that the new capital will support international expansion alongside R&D efforts focused on advertising effectiveness and payments. The startup previously secured $200 million from Tether in February at a valuation of $1.6 billion. Alongside its headquarters, Whop operates an office in New York and is currently hiring for positions across sales, product, engineering, and operations.
