Just months after hitting store shelves, Samsung has increased US pricing for the Galaxy S26 smartphone series by USD 100 or more. This recent modification brings the entry-level price for the 256GB Galaxy S26 close to the USD 1,000 threshold. Applied to almost every S26 configuration, the changes went live on Samsung’s official US website on October 1, 2026.
This upward shift arrives as manufacturers contend with significantly higher memory expenses, fueled largely by heavy demand from the artificial intelligence sector. Previously, Samsung pointed to escalating RAM and component expenses to justify the elevated launch prices of the S26 range.
Galaxy S26 Now Costs USD 200 More than S25
Debuting in the US at USD 899.99, the standard Galaxy S26 was already priced USD 100 higher than its predecessor, the Galaxy S25. Following this newest adjustment, the 256 GB variant is priced at USD 999.99. Similarly, the Galaxy S26 Plus experienced a USD 100 bump, elevating its starting cost to USD 1,199.99, while the entry-level Galaxy S26 Ultra now begins at USD 1,399.99. The 1TB Ultra configuration experienced an even steeper USD 200 hike.
Consequently, the base S26 carries a price tag USD 200 higher than the launch price of the Galaxy S25, though Samsung did double the base storage capacity from 128GB to 256GB on the newer generation.
Is Rising Memory Costs the Main Reason?
Escalating memory expenses present an increasing challenge for phone makers. Samsung leadership previously noted that rising memory prices played a major role in the elevated cost of the Galaxy S26 series, compounded by other growing production and material expenses.
This financial pressure connects directly to AI firms requiring massive memory supplies for their data centers. Furthermore, reports from South Korea show that memory costs have climbed considerably since the S26 debuted in March.

Exempt from this round of US price hikes, the Galaxy S26 FE maintains a starting cost of USD 699, making it the sole model in the family unaffected, though that figure still exceeds the launch price of the Galaxy S25 FE.
