As the demand for dependable data connectivity rises alongside increasing adoption of cloud computing and artificial intelligence, Tata Communications is set to invest almost USD 450 million. The company plans to construct high-speed network infrastructure linking India’s AI data center corridors, according to an announcement reported by Reuters on October 26, 2026.
This initiative entails installing approximately 10,000 kilometers of new long-haul fiber optic cables throughout the country. The resulting network will link data center clusters directly with global capability centers (GCCs), cloud service providers, financial institutions, and other corporate clients that depend on rapid data transmission.
Three-Phase Network Expansion
Rollout of the proposed network will occur across three distinct stages, starting with the Mumbai-Pune-Hyderabad-Chennai corridor to connect vital technological and commercial centers.
Later phases will broaden the network along the eastern coast and throughout the data center hubs of western India, incorporating cities such as Visakhapatnam (Vizag), Bhubaneswar, Jamnagar, and GIFT City.
This new infrastructure is designed to fortify links between enterprise business hubs and India’s AI data centers, assisting organizations that require dependable connections for cloud services and data-heavy applications.

Investment to Support Growing AI Demand
Specializing in enterprise cybersecurity and data connectivity, Tata Communications is making this investment as businesses increasingly depend on data centers, cloud platforms, and AI tools—all of which demand high-capacity, reliable networks.
By deploying this fresh fiber architecture, the company anticipates better integration between corporate users and data center clusters. The target audience for the network includes cloud service providers and banks alike.
Connecting India’s Digital Infrastructure
The expansion introduces long-haul fiber links across essential business centers and technology corridors. By tying together major data center ecosystems, the project seeks to facilitate the transfer of massive data volumes between enterprises and facilities.
Phase one covers the Mumbai-Pune-Hyderabad-Chennai route, with subsequent phases targeting western India and the east coast, including locations like GIFT City, Jamnagar, Bhubaneswar, and Visakhapatnam.
This financial commitment highlights Tata Communications’ strategy to scale up the network foundation underpinning India’s expanding AI landscape by uniting core business districts and data center sites through a newly minted high-speed fiber system.
