The latest iPad mini comes with an 8.5-inch OLED display, expanding upon the 8.3-inch screen of the older generation. Because OLED pixels can turn off entirely, the panel produces stronger contrast and deeper blacks than standard LCD alternatives. Furthermore, Apple trimmed the bezels to expand the viewing area without drastically increasing the overall footprint of the tablet.
Customers can purchase the device with either a standard display or an optional matte nano-texture glass. Available storage spans from 128GB up to 512GB, providing ample space for applications, photos, documents, and media downloads.
A20 Pro Chip Brings a Performance Upgrade
Apple has integrated its A20 Pro processor into the new model, superseding the A17 Pro chip used previously. This hardware refresh aims to boost speeds for gaming, resource-heavy workflows, and creative software.
Advanced neural processing features for artificial intelligence tasks are included in the higher-tier configurations. Additionally, the inclusion of Apple’s N1 networking chip enables Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 support, while cellular models rely on the company’s C2 modem.
Together, these upgrades equip the small-form-factor tablet with modern processing and connectivity components, appealing to users seeking high performance in a portable size.

Water Resistance Comes With a Speaker Redesign
A major addition to this iteration is an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance. To achieve this, Apple overhauled the audio architecture using Acoustic Display technology, embedding the speakers beneath the screen rather than utilizing traditional cutouts.
Eliminating those external holes reduces potential entry points for moisture and debris. Additionally, the report notes that the new tablet is 13% lighter and 14% thinner than the prior version.
The front camera has also been relocated to improve the experience during FaceTime calls and video chats, especially when the device is used in landscape orientation.

Price and Availability
The new iPad mini carries a starting price of USD 699 in the United States, representing a USD 100 increase over the USD 599 entry cost of the previous generation. Color options consist of Starlight and Midnight. Pre-orders open on October 28, and official store sales commence on November 6. Fully upgraded top-tier models—featuring 512GB of storage, cellular capability, and the nano-texture glass—reach a price of up to USD 1,249.
This higher pricing accounts for the inclusion of an OLED panel, a swifter CPU, and enhanced durability features. Ultimately, whether these improvements warrant the cost bump will rely on how much users prioritize a water-resistant build and a premium screen in a pocket-sized device.
