According to a report from The Verge citing Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is developing a new Apple TV 4K featuring updates designed to simplify voice commands and remote locating.
The upcoming streaming device might feature an integrated microphone, while the redesigned Siri Remote could include a small speaker to assist users in tracking it down when misplaced. These new hardware products are anticipated to be unveiled during an October 13 event alongside an updated HomePod mini, with a retail release scheduled for October 30.
A Microphone that Skips the Remote
Currently, Apple TV users must speak directly into the Siri Remote or use an adjacent HomePod to issue voice commands. Incorporating a microphone directly into the Apple TV chassis would enable voice interaction with Siri without requiring the remote beforehand, further integrating the streaming box into the smart home ecosystem.
Users could potentially control a thermostat or verify the status of a smart lock simply through voice commands, eliminating the need to search for the remote. Although Apple has reportedly tested this microphone capability, its inclusion in the final retail version remains unconfirmed.

A Speaker to Help Find the Remote
The updated Siri Remote may additionally address a frequent frustration for users. An integrated speaker could emit an audible alarm when the remote slips between couch cushions or under blankets, allowing owners to locate it by sound rather than blindly searching.
Additionally, the report indicates that the upcoming Apple TV might swap the A15 Bionic processor for Apple’s A19 chip, which could deliver enhanced processing capabilities to support Siri and additional AI functionalities.
Final specifications and pricing details remain unverified, and it is still uncertain whether the built-in microphone will be available upon release. Further details regarding the features of the new Apple TV and HomePod mini are expected to be revealed during Apple’s October 13 event.
