Ring, an Amazon subsidiary, has launched its inaugural smart lock priced at USD 249, aiming to address a primary drawback of keyless entry: dead batteries. Unveiled on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, the Ring Smart Lock includes an integrated power dial that can be manually turned to supply temporary power for door unlocking. Pending regulatory approval, the product is slated for a US release in the first quarter of 2027.
This release broadens Ring’s security hardware catalog, which previously focused primarily on video doorbells and cameras. The manufacturer states that the lock integrates seamlessly with current Amazon and Ring ecosystems while removing the necessity for emergency physical keys or external batteries.
Hand-Cranked Dial Tackles Dead Battery Problem
Situated directly beneath the keypad, the Power Dial serves as the system’s standout attribute. Should the primary power source deplete, manual rotations of the dial create sufficient electricity to run the lock temporarily. This grants individuals enough time to input a code or utilize an alternate access method to gain entry.
Ring estimates that standard operation yields approximately one year of battery life from the primary pack, with levels trackable via the Ring application. Diverging from rival hardware that depends on concealed physical keys, USB ports, or external backup batteries during outages, Ring integrates its emergency restoration system straight into the unit.
Four Ways to Unlock the Ring Smart Lock
Four distinct entry methods are supported: a fingerprint scanner, an illuminated touchscreen keypad, the Ring app, and Amazon Alexa. Additionally, owners can set up scheduled or limited-time access permissions for visitors such as relatives, pet sitters, or cleaning services.
Engineered to replace standard single-cylinder deadbolts, the hardware installs without extra wiring. Connectivity relies on Amazon Sidewalk, enabling operations like status checks, remote locking, and PIN code syncing independently of residential Wi-Fi networks. Ring notes that authorization checks happen locally on the hardware itself.

Ring Smart Lock Launch Set for 2027
Retailing at USD 249, the Ring Smart Lock will debut in the United States offering brass, silver, and black finishes. Details regarding overseas distribution remain unannounced. Furthermore, the corporation noted that pending Federal Communications Commission (FCC) certification means sales cannot commence until regulatory clearance is finalized.
Concurrently, Ring is growing its video surveillance portfolio with fresh 4K hardware options, specifically the Outdoor Cam 4K Plus, Spotlight Cam 4K Plus, and Floodlight Cam 4K Plus. Though the smart lock lacks an embedded camera, it pairs with existing Ring monitoring hardware through the central application.
