Apple is reportedly preparing a major overhaul for its MacBook lineup. Following the rollout of the iPhone 18 series, the Cupertino technology giant is rumored to be redesigning the MacBook Pro. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gruman, the company is developing a thinner and lighter design for its MacBook Pro, accompanied by an OLED display and touchscreen functionality. Should these plans materialize, it would mark a significant shift for Apple’s laptop ecosystem. Additionally, Apple is reportedly developing macOS modifications designed to make touch navigation more seamless.
The reduction in weight is said to be quite noticeable. At present, the 16-inch MacBook Pro powered by the M5 Max chip weighs approximately 2.15 kg, whereas the 15-inch MacBook Air tips the scales at about 1.5 kg. While specific figures for the weight loss have not been disclosed, the decrease is anticipated to be significant. Reports additionally indicate that Apple could release the new hardware as early as next month. The laptops are expected to maintain the use of M5 Pro and M5 Max processors, with Apple reportedly testing macOS 27.2 specifically for the revised Pro models.
Engineering a slimmer laptop is a complex undertaking given the dense collection of components housed within a MacBook Pro. These internal elements comprise the battery, thermal management systems, speakers, and various other hardware pieces. To reduce both thickness and weight, Apple must reconfigure the available interior space while ensuring the device does not overheat, which likely explains why the firm is exploring a new internal layout.

Touch Could Give MacBook Pro A New Feel
Integrating a touchscreen would fundamentally alter the user experience on the MacBook Pro. As Apple prepares macOS to support touch input, this evolution could bridge certain aspects of the Mac experience with the usability of an iPad.
Furthermore, the inclusion of an OLED panel is poised to elevate the overall display quality. If these updates debut simultaneously, the upcoming MacBook Pro will offer a stark contrast to existing models, meaning the triumph of this redesign will rely just as heavily on internal engineering achievements as it will on external user-facing features.
