Rockstar Games has finally shared a wave of exciting official details regarding GTA 6. While the developer has historically kept information closely guarded, Owen Shepherd, Rockstar’s vice president of art for lighting and rendering, revealed several highly anticipated features during an interview with Game Informer.
Chief among the updates is the introduction of a changing weather system. Fans have long speculated about the inclusion of hurricanes—a staple of Florida’s climate—and Rockstar has now confirmed they are coming to the game, though details regarding their frequency and exact gameplay impact remain undisclosed. Furthermore, the dynamic weather engine will allow players to enjoy sunny skies while simultaneously viewing distant rainbows and accumulating puddles.
Animal life has also drawn major attention. GTA 6 will feature upwards of 170 animal species, broken down into more than 60 types of birds, over 30 land animals, plus various fish and reptiles. Players will encounter creatures like alligators, manatees, flamingos, and pelicans. Leonida itself will encompass six primary regions: Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga National Park.
Beyond exploration, players can participate in fishing, diving, kayaking, racing, and mini-golf. Activities like visiting the gym and the zoo will provide additional leisure options, while the RydeMe application enables users to book ride-share trips, listen to music, browse social media, and converse throughout the ride.
The title will also incorporate in-game social media feeds that players can scroll through, though they cannot publish posts. Because protagonists Jason and Lucia are constantly on the run, excessive social media activity could jeopardize their safety.
Furthermore, the dynamic between Jason and Lucia will be shaped by user choices. Whether their bond develops into something beyond a platonic connection depends entirely on the player’s decisions.

GTA 6 Wildlife Brings Back A Red Dead Redemption 2 Idea
The animal system may evoke memories of Red Dead Redemption 2. In GTA 6, players will have the ability to track certain animals and encounter rare creatures in the wild, which are categorized into Rare, Discoverable, and Legendary groups.
This mechanic mirrors Rockstar’s approach in Red Dead Redemption 2, where wildlife was used to breathe life into forests, rivers, and mountains. GTA 6 applies this same concept to a modern backdrop, trading open wilderness for the bustling streets, beaches, swamps, and waters surrounding Vice City.
