Without any formal announcement, Google has updated the Google Earth app icon, outfitting the mapping service with a modern aesthetic that aligns with the tech giant’s expanding deployment of gradient-centric designs. While keeping its traditional globe-inspired motif, the revised logo showcases gentler hues and a striking blue gradient. This visual tweak forms a piece of Google’s broader aesthetic overhaul, which has steadily rolled out refreshed icons to multiple platforms.
New Icon Brings a Cleaner Look to Google Earth
The updated Google Earth emblem maintains its circular form and signature globe features while undergoing subtle stylistic tweaks. Where the previous iteration displayed bolder, distinct curved arcs to denote the Earth, the modern variant streamlines those features, employing a softer color fade from lavender and light blue to a more vivid blue tone.
Presently, the revised icon has surfaced on the Google Play Store page and the Google Earth Engine portal. Conversely, the legacy logo persists on the primary Google Earth webpage and inside installed mobile applications, indicating that Google is implementing the rollout incrementally rather than deploying it everywhere simultaneously.

Google Continues Its Shift Towards Gradient Branding
Google has steadily updated the branding of various applications, favoring muted tones and gradient aesthetics. Past overhauls have touched its Workspace suite alongside other tools, such as offerings connected to Google Search.
The Earth redesign aligns with this trend, granting the mapping tool a cohesive feel alongside Google’s broader software family. This visual refresh also arrives on the heels of other recent upgrades to Earth, such as artificial intelligence-driven data layers and expanded access to the platform’s integrated flight simulator.
Although the logo revision brings no functional changes, it provides the well-known mapping service with a modern look. Google has yet to specify a timeline for when the updated icon will populate all remaining devices and platforms.
