Fireflies.ai has rolled out Fireflies Talk, a new voice-dictation tool that enables users to speak instead of typing across their daily applications. Accessible on Mac and Windows via the Fireflies desktop app, the functionality provides unlimited dictation across all Fireflies tiers, encompassing the free plan.
The mechanics are simple: users click inside any text box, press and hold a keyboard shortcut, talk naturally, and let go of the key. The dictated text populates right at the cursor’s location, eliminating the need to launch a separate transcription window.
Works Across Multiple Work Apps
Talk functions in any environment where users regularly input text, spanning Gmail, Slack, Google Docs, ChatGPT, CRM fields, and other text-box applications. Fireflies notes that the feature dynamically adjusts formatting based on the destination app.
As an illustration, email dictation is structured like an email, whereas Slack messages maintain a concise, conversational tone. Within Slack, Talk can additionally detect names and convert them into @mentions whenever the appropriate screen context is present.
Furthermore, the platform automatically strips out filler words and false starts while inserting punctuation, all while preserving the original intent of the user’s speech. Fireflies states that Talk accommodates over 90 languages.
Free and Unlimited on Desktop
In contrast to numerous standalone voice-dictation services that bill users for heavy usage, Fireflies provides Talk at no additional cost and without requiring a separate subscription. There are no word restrictions, and individuals can use the feature without upgrading their current Fireflies plan. Although iOS and Android mobile support is in the pipeline, it is not yet live.
Rather than introducing a standalone tool, the business views Talk as an extension of its current workplace assistant. Fireflies reports that its platform has served over 20 million users to date, traditionally centering on meeting transcription, summaries, and follow-up actions.

Privacy Controls Included
Fireflies asserts that dictation text remains stored on the user’s device and is excluded from model training. At the same time, supplemental terms note that audio, transcripts, and optional Screen Context are transmitted to Fireflies and designated service providers for processing. The organization emphasizes that this data is not retained on its servers post-processing.
Users can disable the optional Screen Context feature at any time. Additionally, Fireflies cautions against using Talk when handling sensitive data like passwords, payment info, or protected health records.
Ultimately, Talk offers Fireflies users a seamless transition between voice and text input without requiring them to switch out of their active workspace.
