BNB Chain has announced proposals for a brand-new Layer 1 blockchain designed to run concurrently with the BNB Smart Chain (BSC), utilizing BNB instead of introducing a separate cryptocurrency. Based on documentation released on Oct. 22, the upcoming network—currently designated as New L1—is tailored for high-speed use cases such as payment processing and trading platforms.
Binance founder Changpeng Zhao posted on X on Oct. 25, ‘Multiple chains, one coins.’ The initiative currently lacks a formal title.
BNB Chain Plans a Second Network Without a New Token
While BSC will maintain its focus on decentralized finance and general applications, New L1 is engineered for workloads requiring reduced latency.
A native bridge is currently under development to link the two blockchains, enabling the transfer of BNB between them. The network is not yet available for public interaction.
BNB will serve as the medium for staking and gas fees on New L1. Participants who stake BNB will acquire govBNB at a 1:1 ratio. These non-transferable governance tokens grant voting capabilities post-delegation, empowering holders to influence network parameter updates.
This initiative builds upon BNB Chain’s ongoing efforts to scale its current infrastructure. The 2026 roadmap previously emphasized faster settlement and elevated transaction throughput without necessitating the migration of existing applications to an alternate network.
New L1 Targets 200-Millisecond Blocks and Quicker Payments
BNB Chain aims to achieve 200-millisecond block times alongside transaction pre-confirmations occurring in approximately 20 milliseconds. An updated Parlia mechanism is intended to finalize transaction sequencing in under one second.
Nonetheless, a pre-confirmation does not guarantee final settlement. According to the documentation, initial signals can be revoked, meaning users must await full execution finality before considering any transfer permanent.
To facilitate accelerated throughput, the architecture will decouple transaction ordering from execution. Additionally, a Multi-Lane framework will set aside a portion of block space specifically for designated applications.
Targeted use cases encompass trading platforms, decentralized order books, and payment solutions. An Oct. 23 market report highlighted $25.6 billion in tokenized stock activity on BNB Chain over the third quarter. Furthermore, existing Solidity smart contracts are expected to remain compatible, although certain Ethereum development tools and transaction formats will not function identically.
New L1 will additionally accommodate batched transactions, sponsored fees, and an optional privacy option for confidential transfers. This privacy mechanism is still undergoing security reviews and is not yet prepared for mainnet funds.
BNB Chain Targets a Public Testnet Before Its 2027 Launch
At present, developers are evaluating New L1 on a closed internal network featuring a limited validator set. Although this private network successfully generates blocks and executes settlement procedures, it remains inaccessible to external users.
The July technical roadmap from BNB Chain projects a public testnet release in late 2026, followed by a mainnet debut in early 2027. Official dates remain unconfirmed and are subject to adjustment as construction progresses.
Specific technical identifiers—such as a public network address, block explorer, or final chain ID—have not yet been released and will be disclosed once the public network launches.
Development on BSC will proceed independently. The August Pasteur upgrade introduced modifications to block generation alongside enhanced validation checks for bridge operations and validator authorization. Regarding New L1, the developers must finish building the native bridge and audit the private-transfer capabilities ahead of the anticipated mainnet rollout.
