Following a weekend dip, Bitcoin managed to climb back past the USD 80,000 mark. Even so, the leading cryptocurrency continues to trade beneath important technical thresholds as U.S. spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds see renewed capital outflows. By October 25, BTC was changing hands near USD 80,500 after a temporary drop toward USD 79,145, as market participants braced for the upcoming Federal Reserve meeting scheduled for October 27–28.
Bitcoin Price Recovers After Weekend Liquidations
On October 24, Bitcoin briefly dipped under USD 80,000 prior to buyers stepping in to drive it higher. This downward movement followed a stretch of sluggishness across the digital asset and technology markets, compounded by Middle East tensions that introduced added caution toward risk-on assets.
The sell-off forced the liquidation of leveraged accounts. CoinGlass data indicated that roughly USD 546.88 million worth of crypto liquidations occurred within a single 24-hour window. Because positions kept unwinding, total liquidation numbers fluctuated depending on the exact time they were recorded.
Even with the rebound, Bitcoin stayed under its 30-day simple moving average, which sits close to USD 83,168. The relative strength index rested at 44.21, and a negative MACD histogram signaled that recent bearish momentum had not yet dissipated.
Bitcoin ETFs Record USD 773.5 Million in Two-Day Outflows
Data from Farside Investors shows that U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs suffered USD 635.6 million in net redemptions on October 22, followed by another USD 137.9 million on October 23, lifting the two-day total to roughly USD 773.5 million.
The bulk of this selling came from BlackRock’s IBIT and Fidelity’s FBTC. On October 22, these two funds posted outflows of USD 254.1 million and USD 217.5 million, respectively, and both saw additional withdrawals the following day to prolong the streak of ETF exits.
This downturn interrupted a three-session streak of inflows that brought in about USD 1.07 million from October 19 to 21. As a result, the most recent withdrawals scaled back—though did not completely wipe out—the gains accumulated earlier in the trading week.
Bitcoin Whale Holdings Improve Despite Selling Pressure
According to CryptoQuant analyst CW8900, the one-year metric for Bitcoin whale holdings improved from a deficit of around 282,000 BTC to a deficit of 39,000 BTC, indicating that large investors have slowed down their net distribution.
Nonetheless, the indicator stayed in negative territory. This means it cannot be definitively said that whales have shifted to net buyers over the full 12-month timeframe, even though their reserves have bounced back from earlier lows.
A separate CryptoQuant evaluation noted that overall whale balances grew by approximately 60,000 BTC starting in late August. At the same time, large Bitcoin wallet transactions drew close observation, though whale transfers by themselves do not definitively verify whether a buy or sell has taken place.
Additional market indicators remained subdued. The Crypto Fear & Greed Index registered at 45, placing it in neutral territory compared to a reading of 73 a month prior. Over a 30-day span, derivatives open interest dropped by 16.88%, while reported spot trading volume tumbled 49.17%.
Bitcoin Price Outlook: What Happens Next?
For immediate support, Bitcoin looks to the USD 79,145 low established during the weekend pullback. A breach below this zone points to the 200-day simple moving average near USD 72,900 as the next major structural floor, though prices could encounter pockets of support between those levels.
Looking upward, Bitcoin needs to break back above USD 83,146—near its 50% Fibonacci retracement level—before challenging resistance around USD 85,258. These technical markers serve as navigational trading bands rather than definitive price guarantees.
The Federal Reserve’s policy gathering is set for October 27–28, culminating in a rate decision and press conference on the final day. Traders will weigh central bank commentary regarding inflation and interest rates alongside incoming figures on Bitcoin ETF fund flows.
