Mumbai — September 30, 2026 — PayU, a prominent diversified fintech platform in India, has integrated Apple Pay into its merchant network, introducing a private, secure, and straightforward payment method for online, in-app, and in-store transactions.
For in-store purchases, users can make contactless payments by double-clicking the side button, completing authentication, and holding their Apple Watch or iPhone close to a payment terminal. High security is maintained for every transaction through authentication via Face ID, Touch ID, or a device passcode, alongside a unique, one-time dynamic security code. The service is available across various locations, including restaurants, grocery stores, pharmacies, coffee shops, taxis, and retail shops.
“PayU is proud to bring Apple Pay to lakhs of Indian merchants, enabling a new era of secure and seamless authentication solutions for digital payments. Beyond introducing this world-class innovation to India, PayU will also empower merchants navigate complex technical integration and compliance processes, reinforcing its commitment to providing advanced digital financial solutions to its customers. Through PayU’s unified checkout, merchants can offer their consumers the flexibility of faster, safe, and more convenient payment option, thereby boosting conversion rates and driving business growth”, said Nikhil Mehta, Senior Vice President – Partnerships & Business Head – Growth Initiatives (Cross-Border Payments & Affordability).
Web and in-app purchases in Safari can also be conducted quickly and easily using Apple Pay on iPads and iPhones—with Mac support arriving soon—eliminating the need to repeatedly enter billing and shipping details or set up new accounts.
Privacy and security form the foundation of Apple Pay. Actual debit or credit card numbers are never kept on Apple servers or the user’s device, nor are they disclosed to merchants by Apple. Instead, the system assigns a unique Device Account Number that is encrypted and housed safely within the Secure Element, a certified, industry-standard chip built to store payment data securely on the device.
Setting up Apple Pay is simple. Users just need to open the Wallet app on their iPhone, tap the ‘+’ icon, and follow the prompts to include eligible cards. As soon as a card is added to an iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch, the user can immediately begin using Apple Pay on that gadget, while continuing to enjoy all the perks and rewards provided by their bank cards.
