In a notable shift for the artificial intelligence sector, US President Donald Trump has ordered the federal government to replace the term ‘artificial intelligence’ with ‘Super Intelligence’ across all official communications.
This directive comes on the heels of a Tuesday White House summit that gathered top executives from prominent technology firms, including OpenAI, Anthropic, NVIDIA, Meta, and Google.
During the gathering, participants entered into a voluntary AI safety pact, backed plans for increased data center development, and endorsed the adoption of ‘Super Intelligence’ or ‘SI’ within US government correspondence.
AI Companies Sign Self-Regulation Pact
Trump announced that tech leaders had endorsed a ‘morally binding’ accord centered on AI safety, characterizing the measure as a ‘form of protection’ against emerging technological risks.
Entitled the White House Accord on Super Intelligence: Joint Commitment on Frontier Responsibilities, the agreement is voluntary and lacks legal enforceability. Six prominent executives put their signatures to the document: Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, OpenAI President Greg Brockman, xAI CEO Elon Musk, and NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang.
The pact requires signatories to implement safeguards for their AI models, track system capabilities, and mitigate threats related to cybersecurity, biosecurity, and chemicals. Furthermore, participants agreed to collaborate with ‘independent auditors’ to evaluate their systems and prevent AI platforms from executing unintended hacks or unauthorized access to technical networks.
Describing the agreement as ‘almost like a constitution, in a way,’ Trump noted that ‘the biggest people in the world signed that, and I signed it as president.’ He additionally stated his intention to form an oversight board for AI safety, though the identities of its members were not disclosed.

Trump Backs More AI Data Centers
Trump reaffirmed his backing for the growth of data centers, which supply the heavy computing capacity needed for AI applications. These infrastructure projects have previously drawn scrutiny regarding their electricity usage and effects on surrounding communities.
To alleviate these worries, Trump stated that technology firms will contribute ‘massive contributions to communities.’ NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang voiced support for the infrastructure growth, suggesting that data centers be reframed as ‘super intelligence factories’ that are actively ‘reindustrializing the United States’ and generating employment.
Trump Pushes ‘Super Intelligence’ Term
Through a signed executive order, Trump instructed US government agencies to adopt ‘SI’ and ‘Super Intelligence’ in place of artificial intelligence for official messaging.
Previously, Trump expressed his dislike for the word ‘artificial,’ arguing that it makes the technology appear ‘fake.’ Meanwhile, industry specialists pointed out that superintelligence typically describes AI systems that surpass the capabilities of today’s technology.
