Why Is Starfighter Suddenly Trending? Disney’s Star Wars: Starfighter is drawing renewed attention, though the current wave of interest stems from a development outside the movie itself. Director Shawn Levy has officially locked in a substantial overall television pact with Disney, a move that has naturally brought his upcoming Star Wars venture back into the spotlight.
Shawn Levy Is at the Centre – At the helm of Star Wars: Starfighter is Shawn Levy, working with a cast that features Ryan Gosling and Flynn Gray. The fresh agreement between Disney and Levy, alongside his production banner 21 Laps, encompasses television endeavors spanning the company’s various properties. Consequently, this announcement immediately shifted focus back toward Levy’s involvement in the Star Wars universe.
Disney Is Expanding the Partnership – Under this fresh pact, Disney has tapped Levy and 21 Laps to craft television content across its entertainment portfolio. Because Levy boasts an established background working with both Disney and Fox, this broadening of their professional ties reaches far beyond just the Starfighter movie.
Starfighter Carries Huge Expectations – Starfighter holds notable importance as the inaugural Star Wars feature film to take place following the events of The Rise of Skywalker. Slated to premiere on May 28, 2027, the movie carries immense expectations as the franchise ventures into a narrative past the Skywalker saga.
Ryan Gosling Adds More Buzz – Headlining the cast is Ryan Gosling as Kade Auberon, alongside co-star Flynn Gray. The studio debuted initial footage to the public at D23 back in August, showcasing Gosling alongside a young boy as they uncover an abandoned Imperial starfighter.
Disney Clearly Has Confidence in Levy – According to insights from Gizmodo, Disney’s ongoing collaboration with Levy demonstrates how deeply the studio appreciates the filmmaker’s artistic output and partnership. This newly minted TV contract was secured while Starfighter continues to stand out as a premier upcoming theatrical release for the studio.
The Real Reason Behind the Buzz – Ultimately, the current discussion surrounding Starfighter goes beyond typical casting news or promotional footage. Disney’s broader arrangement with Levy has pushed the filmmaker center stage as his debut Star Wars picture draws closer to theaters, cementing Starfighter as an intensely anticipated release for 2027.
