The Vivo Vision Discovery Edition aims to simplify mixed reality wearables. Although the headset has not yet received an Indian launch date, a select group of attendees experienced the device firsthand at the Vivo Next event. Tipping the scales at a mere 398g, it feels significantly lighter than its appearance suggests and resembles a pair of ski goggles.
The device features flexible rear straps alongside multiple cameras positioned on the front and underside. Dual 8K Micro-OLED displays project videos, menus, and various interface elements into the user’s field of view. Under the hood, the headset packs Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 processor alongside Vivo’s proprietary OriginOS Vision operating system.
Recent demonstrations highlighted video playback with impressive depth perception, alongside the ability to project a massive virtual screen for standard video viewing. A dedicated button situated near the right temple allows users to instantly pull up the Home menu. Navigation is intuitive: users simply pinch their thumb and index finger together to hover over and select items within the Home menu. Additionally, the system includes a compact external battery pack designed to slip easily into a pocket. To ensure optimal comfort, Vivo provides interchangeable padding options, customizable light seals, and prescription lens inserts.
The lightweight construction stands out as one of the most compelling aspects of the Vivo Vision. Brief testing periods revealed no significant headaches or eye strain, while the soft strap system further enhanced overall comfort—a critical factor for individuals planning extended XR sessions. Although the demonstration highlighted minor setup and window control glitches, Vivo could potentially iron out these wrinkles via future software patches.
Vivo Lets Indians Try it Without a Sale Date
Vivo has not yet announced a commercial release date for the Vision Discovery Edition in India, nor has it guaranteed that the product will hit the market there. Instead, the company is offering hands-on demonstration opportunities. This strategy lets Vivo showcase its extended reality roadmap to Indian consumers without making any firm sales commitments, while gathering user feedback on comfort and ergonomics as it evaluates its next moves in the region.
While the Vivo Vision Discovery Edition remains in an early stage of development, its notable 398g weight sets it apart. Combined with high-resolution displays, intuitive hand-tracking controls, and a reduced footprint, the hardware could pave the way for a more comfortable mixed-reality experience.
