NVIDIA-backed Upscale AI has introduced Token Fabric, a fresh platform built to connect artificial intelligence chips from various manufacturers. The core objective is straightforward: AI data centers should be capable of utilizing semiconductors from multiple vendors rather than constructing separate infrastructures for each individual brand. Token Fabric utilizes Upscale’s networking silicon and software utilities that integrate NVIDIA’s Spectrum-X architecture. Integrating SkyFabriX silicon and switch trays, the platform functions through a unified software stack combining SkyOS and SkyCMD, enabling it to detect problems and highlight hardware requiring maintenance.
Upscale AI anticipates substantial financial returns from the new system. The startup counts NVIDIA, Salesforce, and Singaporean state investor Temasek among its backers. These investors contributed to a USD 190 million extension of its early-stage funding round, bringing the company’s total capital raised to USD 500 million. Chief Executive Officer Barun Kar stated that he projects Token Fabric will yield tens of millions of dollars in revenue in the coming year.
The platform grants data center operators increased flexibility. Rather than depending on a single semiconductor producer, organizations can combine diverse AI accelerators to suit their specific requirements, a capability that will likely prove valuable as the need for AI computing surges. Commenting on the platform’s introduction, NVIDIA’s senior vice president of networking stated, “The network is the backbone of the AI factory, keeping accelerators connected and productive as systems scale.”
According to reports, the initial phase of the platform is scheduled for release in the fourth quarter, with subsequent components deploying gradually through 2027.

AI Chips Need to Share Data Quickly
Simply having multiple AI processors does not automatically guarantee superior performance. These components must exchange massive quantities of data simultaneously while executing AI models. Delays in data transmission can leave certain chips idle, underscoring the critical role of the interconnecting network.
While accelerated connections help maintain synchronized operations among processors, achieving seamless compatibility between hardware from rival firms presents significant challenges. Token Fabric aims to address this obstacle by establishing a standardized communication method for mixed-vendor hardware.
Because the current AI race prioritizes high-speed processors and expansive data facilities, the infrastructure linking these accelerators may prove just as vital as the chips themselves. Should Token Fabric simplify the construction of mixed-architecture systems, it could significantly enhance data center adaptability amidst escalating AI demands.
