This week’s startup investment activity emphasized growing financial backing for artificial intelligence, autonomous mobility, maritime intelligence, and consumer brands. Alphabet’s Waymo obtained USD 5 billion in debt financing to scale its robotaxi operations, whereas AI startup Manus secured over USD 500 million following its separation from Meta.
Within India, lifestyle-tech company DailyObjects secured Rs. 332 crore, and Guardrail Technologies brought in nearly USD 3 million to bolster AI security. Concurrently, maritime intelligence startup Quartermaster AI disclosed a USD 140 million Series B round earlier this month.
Waymo Secures USD 5 Billion to Expand Robotaxis
Alphabet’s autonomous driving unit Waymo finalized a USD 5 billion term loan on October 8, representing its initial debt financing. The capital will fuel the growth of its self-driving ride-hailing services in the United States and abroad.
Key lenders featured PIMCO, Blackstone, and Sixth Street, in addition to multiple other financial institutions. This transaction comes on the heels of Waymo’s USD 16 billion equity funding earlier in 2026, granting the enterprise greater financial agility as commercial scaling continues.
Manus Raises Over USD 500 Million After Meta Exit
Butterfly Effect, the parent organization behind AI startup Manus, collected upwards of USD 500 million through a financing round co-led by Boyu Capital and IDG Capital. Current backers, such as Tencent, Sequoia China, and ZhenFund, also took part. Manus creates artificial intelligence agents capable of conducting research and executing automated workflows with minimal human direction.
This capital acquisition arrives after the dissolution of Meta’s planned acquisition, subsequent to which Manus went back to operating independently. The agreement underscores ongoing market enthusiasm for autonomous AI applications.
DailyObjects Raises Rs. 332 Crore at Rs. 1,050 Crore Valuation
Indian lifestyle-tech company DailyObjects brought in Rs. 332 crore via a combination of primary and secondary transactions, establishing a valuation of roughly Rs. 1,050 crore for the business. Xponentia Capital Partners, Anicut Capital, and Axiom Asia Private Capital spearheaded the round.
The enterprise intends to direct the funds toward scaling its physical retail footprint, enhancing product design, and venturing into international territories. Early-stage backer Roots Ventures is executing a partial exit from its investment while retaining its status as a shareholder.

Guardrail and Quartermaster Attract Investor Interest
Guardrail Technologies garnered close to USD 3 million in seed capital, spearheaded by Filter Fund Venture Capital, to push its AI governance and security platform into the Asian and European markets. Its technology assists enterprises in tracking AI agents and governing their behavior.
Concurrently, Quartermaster AI pulled in USD 140 million in Series B financing, led by Insight Partners and defense-oriented fund Overmatch Ventures, with a portion of the capital arranged as debt. The Arlington-headquartered enterprise deploys ship-based sensors to gather live maritime data for commercial shipping lines, insurance providers, and public sector bodies.
Collectively, these rounds demonstrate investors supporting both artificial intelligence software and the foundational systems required to commercialize nascent technologies.
