Fresh renders of the HMD Slate Tab 5G have emerged, highlighting a substantial screen, vibrant color options, and accessory connectors. Following roughly two years of development, the device might debut alongside the Skyline 2. Tipster HMD_MEME’S shared the new images on X on October 4, revealing orange and blue colorways, a solitary rear camera, and POGO pins located on the bottom edge.
This hardware layout suggests the HMD Slate Tab 5G could function as a laptop alternative when paired with keyboard attachments. Visually, the tablet is said to draw inspiration from the Nokia Lumia 2520 and Microsoft’s Surface series.
Equipped with POGO pins for a keyboard dock, the 2-in-1 slate aims to offer enhanced productivity features. HMD has yet to officially verify the existence of the tablet, its potential price tag, release window, or availability.
The most substantial shift concerns the screen size, with current reports pointing to a 15.6-inch LCD. Previous rumors indicated a 10.6-inch IPS LCD featuring a 90Hz refresh rate and 2000×1200 resolution. That earlier model was also rumored to feature Gorilla Glass 3 alongside a Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chip.
Additionally, the initial specifications pointed to 8GB of RAM, 128GB of UFS 2.2 storage, and a 9,250mAh battery. Connectivity specs for that iteration included 30W charging support, 5G, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, and a headphone jack. However, these hardware details may change entirely if HMD re-engineered the device around the larger screen.
Camera specifications are similarly unclear, though past rumors pointed to an 8-megapixel front-facing camera and a 13-megapixel rear shooter. The newest renders display just a single camera on the back, leaving its sensor resolution and capabilities unconfirmed.
According to the tipster, the project is a 2-in-1 Android tablet that has been in development for over two years. Adopting a Surface-inspired aesthetic could carve out a unique niche for HMD within the tablet sector.
While rumors suggest the slate could arrive alongside the Skyline 2, no official release schedule has been announced. Until HMD makes an official statement, the discrepancy between the reported screen sizes is the primary uncertainty regarding the release.
