With the upcoming iOS 27.2 update, Apple’s iPhone Duo is set to introduce Apple Pencil support across both of its screens. Following the feature’s inclusion in the Release Candidate, Apple is anticipating a public launch next week. Max Weinbach, an analyst at Creative Strategies, verified the capability after loading the newest test build onto his handset.
This update enables the USB-C version of the Apple Pencil to function on both the internal and external displays of the iPhone Duo. Individuals can utilize the stylus for taking notes, drawing, marking up documents, and navigating compatible applications. This enhancement broadens the productivity capabilities of the foldable phone, removing the need for a separate gadget to handle basic stylus functions.
Only the USB-C Apple Pencil Works
The iPhone Duo is compatible exclusively with the USB-C Apple Pencil, leaving alternative stylus models unsupported. Neither the Apple Pencil Pro nor previous generations are able to pair with the handset, a restriction dictated by the technical specifications of Apple’s higher-end styluses.
Because the Apple Pencil Pro depends on capabilities like magnetic pairing and inductive charging, and the iPhone Duo is not equipped with the necessary hardware, compatibility is restricted strictly to the USB-C variant. Buyers planning to acquire the accessory ought to verify the correct model beforehand.
iOS 27.2 Brings the Feature Closer to Launch
During the initial unveiling of the iPhone Duo, Apple indicated that stylus integration would roll out later in the year. However, its inclusion in the iOS 27.2 Release Candidate hints that the company may have accelerated the timeline. An official public release is anticipated around October 26, though Apple has yet to formally announce an exact date.
Furthermore, the USB-C Pencil does not include a number of sophisticated functions found when paired with compatible iPad models, such as pressure detection, squeeze gestures, haptic responses, and Find My tracking. While some reports suggest Pencil hover functionality might be introduced for specific AI and Siri shortcuts, those capabilities still need verification.
The software update represents a significant broadening of stylus utility for Apple’s foldable device. Ultimately, the practical utility of the feature will rely on app compatibility and the degree to which users integrate handwriting into their daily routines.
