Google has begun deploying fresh Gemini voice controls for the Pixel Buds Pro 2 and Pixel Buds 2a. The functionality empowers Gemini to manage various earbud configurations using verbal commands, eliminating the need to manually open the Pixel Buds app.
Targeting owners of the Pixel Buds Pro 2 and Pixel Buds 2a running app version 1.0.981607934, these enhancements were initially previewed by Google during its August Pixel 11 launch ahead of the scheduled September software rollout. When a user makes a request, Gemini processes it via the phone before communicating with the earbuds to execute the adjustment.
As Google explains, “Adjust your Buds settings with Gemini. Just say ‘Hey Google, turn up the bass.’” Users can leverage these voice commands to alter equalizer presets, modify bass intensity, and toggle noise control modes. Additionally, Gemini can turn Conversation Detection on or off and alter touch control configurations.
When a voice instruction is given, Gemini presents an overlay ahead of linking with the paired Pixel Buds. A notification stating ‘Connecting to Pixel Buds’ surfaces before Gemini verifies the implementation of the change. Confirmation is provided via both visual prompts and audio feedback for supported commands.
Additionally, the update establishes a more direct link between Gemini and the Pixel Buds configuration menu. Users without the mandatory app update might find that equivalent commands trigger Android’s Bluetooth settings page instead. Furthermore, Google has readied several upcoming Pixel Buds capabilities that depend on separate firmware updates. Dynamic ANC is designed to compensate for minor shifts in the earbuds’ seal during everyday activity, ensuring steady active noise cancellation if the earbuds move slightly.
