Ebru Erturk hosts the expat storytelling YouTube channel Bizbizetalk, but her primary occupation operates far away from the studio. She is the founder, owner, and operator of Elexa car, a Dubai-based car rental agency.
A business she runs herself
While many founders simply lend their names to ventures while delegating day-to-day management, Erturk takes a hands-on approach. At Elexacar, she remains actively engaged in daily operations rather than acting solely as an owner.
The car rental industry matches this hands-on management style. It relies on constant, minor details—from bookings and vehicle handovers to inspections and assisting clients whose flights arrive late yet still require keys. Issues arise immediately, and clients notice how swiftly those problems are resolved. This environment suits individuals who appreciate structured systems and prefer staying closely connected to daily tasks.
Why car rental fits Dubai
Dubai’s car rental sector remains active due to the city’s geography. The metropolis stretches across extensive highways, and numerous essential destinations lie beyond the reach of the Metro system.
Demand for car rentals originates from various sources. Tourists appreciate the autonomy to design their own itineraries, while newcomers frequently require vehicles well before purchasing their own. Additionally, businesses require cars for short-term initiatives or incoming employees. Consequently, renting a vehicle functions less as a vacation luxury and more as a practical necessity for daily life.
The long road to a first company
Erturk’s journey toward founding Elexacar began at age 16. She maintained employment throughout her civil engineering studies, subsequently earned a master’s degree in architecture, and spent approximately a decade working in various construction roles for a government institution in Istanbul.
In 2019, she relocated to London with the intention of pursuing an MBA and establishing her own construction enterprise under the Ankara Agreement. The pandemic disrupted these plans, prompting her to remain in London and accept available employment, including waitressing and accounting positions. Eventually, she transitioned into digital marketing, advanced to the role of marketing manager, and cultivated an extensive network of publishers and editors.
Following five years in the United Kingdom, she attained indefinite leave to remain and ultimately acquired British citizenship. Although she contemplated a return to Türkiye, life steered her toward Dubai, where she finally realized her goal of launching her own company.
What she brought with her
Every phase of her background contributed valuable experience. Her engineering background instilled discipline and a technical mindset, whereas marketing provided insight into how customers discover and trust a business. Furthermore, her employment experiences in London offered her perspective on service from the customer’s viewpoint.
Operating a vehicle rental agency utilizes each of these competencies. Overseeing assets, maintaining efficient operations, and ensuring customer retention all draw upon distinct periods of her professional background.
One founder, two projects
Although Elexacar and Bizbizetalk appear distinct, they share a common foundation. Both require careful observation of individuals—identifying their requirements, addressing their concerns, and ensuring they feel supported.
For Ebru Erturk, the agency represents her most tangible entrepreneurial venture to date. It is a Dubai car rental enterprise forged from experiences spanning three countries, with its founder directly guiding its course.
