Bandai Namco’s long-awaited flight-combat title, Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve, is scheduled for release on October 2, 2026, for the Xbox Series X|S. The upcoming installment introduces a fresh campaign, deeper aircraft customization options, and an increased emphasis on the player’s squadron and fellow pilots.
Developed by Bandai Namco Aces, this represents the first mainline entry in the franchise in seven years. It will release simultaneously on PlayStation 5 and PC.
New Story Takes Players Inside the Squadron
A major shift for the franchise is how the narrative is delivered. Rather than depending exclusively on conventional cutscenes and briefings, Ace Combat 8 incorporates a first-person perspective for multiple story segments.
Gamers step into the shoes of the Wings of Theve, a renowned ace whose persona was originally forged to sustain morale throughout a war. The single-player campaign centers on this pilot alongside the members of Joker Flight as they launch missions from the Endurance aircraft carrier.
Squadron dynamics take center stage, integrating interpersonal bonds and character interactions between sorties directly into the campaign progression.
More Aircraft and Deeper Customization
The latest installment broadens the playable plane lineup and grants greater versatility in mission strategies. Players can unlock and enhance various aircraft and gear by utilizing credits accumulated throughout the campaign.
Furthermore, Ace Combat 8 features fresh terrain types, upgraded cloud rendering, and massive skirmishes built to leverage current-generation hardware capabilities. The title preserves the franchise’s signature arcade flight mechanics while providing alternative handling settings for users seeking a more challenging aviation simulation.

Multiplayer Gets a Major Expansion
The online component also sees a substantial overhaul. Publisher Bandai Namco states that the multiplayer suite features fresh gameplay modes, progression mechanics, and an Air Base social hub capable of accommodating up to 100 users. Additionally, cross-platform play enables users on compatible systems to team up or compete together.
For Xbox players, purchasing the Deluxe Edition grants three days of early access ahead of the official October 2 rollout. Furthermore, customers who pre-order receive a playable F-14A jet alongside Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War.
