I will be celebrating thanksgiving with my family on Friday to include the traditional family meal of Thanksgiving, but I also have some thoughts for the day of thanksgiving that I have drawn for this year.
I’ve been thinking about this for a while. The tradition of the meal of thanksgiving is one that has been around since the Pilgrims spread their first dinner table, and it can be traced back to a time not too long before the Pilgrims came to America. It is a time to remember those lost, or remembered, or both, or both.
While I’m sure that a lot of families and churches have some kind of memorial service, I have to say, the Pilgrims were not exactly a church-goer. There were a lot more of them, but the Pilgrims were the ones who really started the practice. They were the ones who took a large piece of wood and started carving a table, and then they set it up in front of the church.

This is not to say that Pilgrims didn’t have a tradition of going to church. Pilgrims were the ones who were charged with keeping the “Holy Grounds” of the Pilgrims’ Plymouth Colony in the New World. They did this by taking the first fruits from the fields and putting them into the church so that Pilgrims could get a chance to go to church.
After a while, the Pilgrims decided to get on with what was obviously a religious activity. They built a church on the site of the town they were living in when the Pilgrims landed. In their tradition the church was named after the first Puritan minister to come to the colony. So, thanksgiving 2021 is a massive table, big enough to hold the First Communion table, plus the entire church and all the gifts that Pilgrims received.
It’s the biggest thanksgiving table I’ve ever seen. While the church was built and built for more than just the Pilgrims, it’s also the largest I’ve ever seen. The church is huge, but I didn’t see it from above. When I was there the building looked just like the real thing, but inside it looks brand new. It was a very big building, and the first thing I noticed was this huge church bell.
I had my camera running constantly, so I could get a really good look at the actual church, but the biggest thing I noticed was this huge bell right outside the door.
After seeing the church I was immediately drawn to it. I know, right? At the time I had a huge fear of seeing anything new, but now it seemed like an apt comparison between the church and the new apartment building I had been working on. I knew what I wanted to do with the new building, but nothing was exactly what I had in mind.
I don’t know what I had in mind. Maybe a new kind of house that didn’t look like a house at all, as it was more like an apartment or a castle. Maybe a home that looks like a house, but is not. But then I saw the bell.
