Paramount Pictures is bringing Cyberpunk 2077 to theaters. Reports indicate that Paramount is collaborating with CD Projekt Red on a live-action movie situated in the game’s universe. The project has brought on producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, widely recognized for his work on the Transformers franchise. Currently, specific details—including a release date—have not yet been shared regarding the game’s cinematic adaptation.
Because the movie is currently in the earliest phases of development, decisions regarding the cast, plot, and release schedule have not been finalized, making it premature to discuss a timeline. Plot specifics remain heavily guarded, leaving it unconfirmed whether the production will center on V and Johnny Silverhand or feature an entirely new cast of characters in Night City.
Set within a universe defined by crime, high technology, and dominant mega-corporations, the franchise has already expanded outside of interactive gaming via Netflix’s Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. A second anime project is likewise in production, providing multiple avenues for the franchise to attract new audiences.
While Cyberpunk: Edgerunners chronicled the journey of David Martinez as he fought to survive in Night City, the upcoming live-action film may choose to investigate a different corner of this universe rather than rehash familiar narratives.

How the Film Can Differ From Edgerunners
The upcoming movie is anticipated to draw a younger demographic toward the video game. Viewers intrigued by the film will likely check out the source material firsthand. Furthermore, a feature film provides a more condensed entry point compared to an extensive role-playing game, presenting CD Projekt Red with another vehicle to maintain public visibility for the franchise.
While this partnership provides Paramount and CD Projekt Red an opportunity to engage a broader audience, the production remains in its early stages. With the cast, plot details, and release timeline still unannounced, the movie’s ultimate success will hinge on its ability to faithfully recreate Night City for the screen.
