Nintendo of America president Devon Pritchard has spoken out regarding the prospect of Grand Theft Auto 6 coming to the Switch 2, stopping short of confirming any active development. Speaking with Variety, Pritchard emphasized that publisher Take-Two Interactive and developer Rockstar Games hold the ultimate authority on bringing the title to Nintendo hardware.
GTA 6 is scheduled to debut on November 19 for the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, whereas its status on Nintendo’s hardware is still unverified.
Because Pritchard shared no launch timeline or concrete commitment, owners of the Nintendo Switch 2 are left awaiting an official word.
When questioned about a possible port, the Nintendo official remarked, “That’s going to be a conversation for Take-Two and Rockstar, but nothing to announce on my end at this time.” While this reply avoids confirming that the title is being built for the console, it keeps the door open.
GTA 6 Faces Potential Switch 2 Hardware Challenges
Given the immense scope and heavy graphical requirements of GTA 6, adapting it for the Nintendo Switch 2 could present significant hurdles. The console is capable of handling heavy-hitting software, as seen with Cyberpunk 2077 proving that complex games can be successfully scaled for Nintendo systems.
Nevertheless, bringing this upcoming open-world title to the device might require Rockstar to make major concessions in terms of performance and visuals.
Historically, Rockstar has brought select titles to Nintendo systems, such as Red Dead Redemption launching on the Switch 2 in 2025. While multiple entries in the Grand Theft Auto series made their way to the original Switch—though GTA 5 never did—this past support does not assure that GTA 6 will be compatible.
GTA 6 Release Plans Remain Focused on PlayStation and Xbox
Thus far, Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games have only slated GTA 6 for the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. The absence of confirmed announcements for a PC edition or a Nintendo Switch 2 adaptation leaves the game’s broader platform roadmap unclear. Robust preorder demand suggests a massive debut, though high sales figures alone do not guarantee that additional ports will follow.
Nintendo enthusiasts could still have a major title to look forward to in November, with rumors pointing to an Ocarina of Time remake arriving on the Switch 2 on November 5. Such a remake would bolster the holiday software schedule while GTA 6 stays restricted to its currently confirmed platforms.
Until Take-Two or Rockstar provides further updates, technical specifications, preorder details, and a release date for the Switch 2 remain nonexistent.
