Reports indicate that Chinese artificial intelligence startup DeepSeek is nearing a deal to secure at least 80 billion yuan (USD 11.93 billion) through its newest funding round. This capital injection vastly surpasses the firm’s initial goal of roughly 50 billion yuan, driven by heightened investor enthusiasm following the debut of its newest AI model. Prominent participants contributing some of the largest sums to this round include Tencent Holdings and battery manufacturer Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL).
Bloomberg noted that the closing total might reach 100 billion yuan, though talks remain active and numbers remain subject to change prior to completion. DeepSeek, Tencent, and CATL declined to provide immediate statements regarding the matter, and Reuters stated it was unable to independently validate the financial particulars.
Investor Demand Surges After New AI Model
Initial plans for DeepSeek involved raising approximately 50 billion yuan, but market demand scaled up following the rollout of its updated model. Last month marked the launch of DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash, which the enterprise characterized as an advanced system engineered for enhanced performance, quicker inference speeds, increased throughput, and larger-scale expansion capabilities.
This fresh capital will equip DeepSeek with considerably greater resources to scale up its computing infrastructure and press forward with AI model research. The startup has drawn worldwide focus ever since its preceding open-source models disrupted conventional ideas regarding the capital and processing power required to develop rival AI frameworks.
Tencent and CATL Among Major Backers
Leading Chinese technology giant and WeChat operator Tencent stands as one of the primary investors in this funding cycle. In addition, CATL, recognized as a global leader in electric vehicle battery production, is contributing a substantial financial stake.
This support underscores the expanding enthusiasm among major Chinese companies for DeepSeek’s innovations. While Tencent has previously backed the startup, CATL’s participation underscores the critical role that artificial intelligence infrastructure and computational needs play across China’s broader tech and industrial landscapes.

DeepSeek Prepares for Bigger AI Expansion
This financial backing arrives as DeepSeek solidifies its standing within the domestic AI market. The organization recently joined forces with Huawei Technologies to build software tools tailored for Huawei’s Ascend AI processors, aiding national initiatives to lessen reliance on Nvidia’s hardware ecosystem.
Furthermore, DeepSeek has enlisted CITIC Securities to lay the groundwork for an eventual public offering on the Shanghai STAR Market, though specific schedules, valuations, and offering sizes are not yet finalized. Should it finalize, this latest round will supply DeepSeek with heavy financial muscle as the business moves toward its next phase of development.
