Activision has announced that *Call of Duty: Warzone* will end its run on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on November 6, 2026, officially concluding the game’s era on last-generation consoles. This shutdown will happen alongside the launch of Season 1 for *Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4*.
This move does not signal the end of *Warzone* as a whole. The free-to-play battle royale will maintain its service on compatible platforms, specifically PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Nevertheless, users on the older hardware will lose access to the game once the deadline passes.
Why Activision is Ending Last-Gen Support
Activision initially revealed this transition earlier in the year as part of a broader strategy to shift the franchise exclusively toward current-generation hardware. Because *Modern Warfare 4* is skipping PS4 and Xbox One entirely, maintaining a unified *Warzone* experience across legacy systems has become unfeasible.
Moving away from older consoles additionally frees developers to leverage modern hardware capabilities when designing new maps, gameplay mechanics, and seasonal updates. Launched initially in March 2020, *Warzone* grew into one of the series’ most successful free-to-play titles, using its presence on legacy systems to build a massive player base.

What Happens to Existing Players?
Players who previously downloaded *Warzone* on Xbox One or PS4 retained access to the game leading up to the shutdown. To restrict new users, Activision pulled the title from the digital storefronts of both consoles on June 4, and subsequently disabled the in-game store on June 25 to halt all transactions on those editions.
November 5 marks the last full day of play for those on legacy consoles, with servers permanently shutting down on both platforms on November 6.

Progress and Purchases Can Carry Forward
Existing progress and eligible purchases are not necessarily lost. Activision verified that users can transfer their progression and supported items to current-gen platforms simply by logging into the same linked Activision account.
Consequently, users upgrading to an Xbox Series X|S or a PS5 can pick up right where they left off without needing to reset their progress entirely. While this closure concludes years of gameplay for fans on older hardware, Activision is shifting its complete attention toward modern systems as the series moves into its next phase.
