Ben Affleck’s Animals Debuts on Netflix with Kidnapping and Intrigue

Ben Affleck’s thriller Animals makes its Netflix debut on October 9, 2026, delivering a gripping tale blending family, crime and political aspirations. Affleck takes the helm as director and stars in the production, which centers on a Los Angeles mayoral hopeful and his wife working frantically to rescue their abducted son.

A Political Candidate Faces a Family Crisis

Within Animals, Ben Affleck portrays Mark Kimball, an LA mayoral candidate whose world is upended after his child is taken. This emergency compels him to navigate tough choices while juggling public aspirations with paternal duties, highlighting how sudden personal crises can imperil even high-ranking public figures.

Kerry Washington Plays Affleck’s Wife

Kerry Washington steps into the role of Abigail Kimball, wife to Affleck’s character. As the pair works desperately to free their boy, their bond undergoes severe strain, illustrating how dread, doubt and urgency can bring underlying marital conflicts to the surface and put the household’s destiny at the core of the thriller.

A Star-Studded Supporting Cast

The movie boasts a notable ensemble featuring Gillian Anderson, Steven Yeun, Adriana Paz, Luis Gerardo Méndez, Ray Fisher and Matt Gerald. Their presence enriches the narrative’s themes of political scheming, secrecy and mounting peril, uniting a varied group of seasoned film and television actors for a plot rooted in domestic strife and critical choices.

Ben Affleck Returns as Director

Beyond his starring duties, Affleck directs the feature and co-wrote the screenplay alongside Connor O. McIntyre and Billy Ray. This adds to his directorial portfolio, which includes projects like Argo and The Town, placing him at the heart of the creative process to shape the movie’s tense tone and exploration of complex ethical dilemmas.

A Race Against Time for the Ransom

The abduction serves as the main catalyst for the plot, forcing the mother and father to gather ransom money while dealing with the fallout of past decisions. Because a significant portion of their financial resources is committed to the mayoral race, the household confronts both a monetary and emotional emergency, prompting inquiries surrounding wealth, authority and the lengths parents will go to safeguard their kids.

Netflix Expands Its Thriller Line-up

Animals arrives as part of Netflix’s October 2026 catalog, introducing criminal elements, political intrigue and domestic suspense to the service. The project is a collaboration with Artists Equity, the studio established by Affleck, Matt Damon and Gerry Cardinale. The October 9 launch provides viewers with a prominent cinematic thriller to stream alongside the platform’s other seasonal titles.
