According to a report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple could potentially unveil a new smart-home hub, an upgraded HomePod mini, and a refreshed Apple TV 4K on October 13th. The technology corporation has not yet verified the event or any of the hardware. Should these products debut, it would signify a more significant push by the company into the smart-home market.
The Hub Is the Main Product
The upcoming hub is central to the report. Internally designated as J490 and widely anticipated to be called the HomePad, the device is rumored to feature a display measuring approximately 6 inches. This screen is positioned atop a speaker base, featuring an aesthetic that may evoke memories of the classic iMac G4, complete with a metal stand enabling users to tilt the display. Additionally, Apple is reportedly developing a wall-mounted variation.
The hub is expected to manage smart-home automation. Furthermore, it could facilitate FaceTime video calls, music playback, photo slideshows, intercom communications, and various applications. Through voice and facial recognition, the unit can display personalized information for individual users. Engineered to integrate with Apple’s new Siri AI, the device essentially functions as a combination home speaker and compact display screen.

Smaller Upgrades for HomePod Mini and Apple TV 4K
An updated HomePod mini may also be introduced by Apple. While the exterior design is expected to remain largely consistent with the existing model, the speaker is slated to receive a speedier chip alongside compatibility with the new Siri AI, alongside rumored new color options.
Likewise, the Apple TV 4K is anticipated to receive a refresh, potentially featuring a quicker processor. Apple may also modify the internal hardware to support upcoming Siri AI capabilities.
Apple Takes On Amazon and Google
Should the report prove accurate, Apple is expanding its footprint in the smart-home sector, intensifying its rivalry with the Amazon Echo and Google Nest product lines. Nevertheless, no official confirmation has been provided. Specifics regarding the launch format, retail pricing, and shipping dates remain unconfirmed. Official announcements from Apple are required before any of these plans are finalized, meaning these current details are still classified as reports and rumors that warrant caution.
