Apple has unveiled its inaugural touchscreen MacBook Pro, concluding years of hesitation regarding the integration of touch capabilities into its laptop lineup. The 14-inch variant begins at USD 2,899, whereas the 16-inch edition starts at USD 3,399.
Equipped with an OLED-based PROLED XDR display featuring touch support, the devices go on sale starting November 6. This initial price point represents a substantial increase for the MacBook Pro lineup, with the 14-inch touchscreen model running USD 900 more than the most recent entry-level MacBook Pro.
Apple’s First Touch Mac: Price Range
The peak price is attached to the top-of-the-line 16-inch configuration. Outfitted with an M5 Max chip, 128GB of unified memory, and a 16TB SSD, the computer retails for USD 14,549. Storage is the primary driver of this steep cost: Apple prices the 16TB SSD upgrade at USD 7,000, while the 8TB upgrade runs USD 3,000 and the 4TB option adds USD 1,000.
Customers upgrading from the base configuration to 128GB of memory incur an extra USD 2,000 charge, and selecting a nano-texture glass finish incurs an additional USD 150. The entry-level setup features an M5 Pro processor, 24GB of memory, and 1TB of storage. Apple has designed the hardware for professionals seeking a more powerful, expansive display paired with touch input.
Previously, the highest-spec 16-inch MacBook Pro maxed out at USD 10,149. This new touchscreen iteration pushes that ceiling up by USD 4,400.
New ceiling for MacBook Pro
This development brings Apple’s costliest laptop into competition with mobile workstations. It likewise indicates that premium hardware, rather than mass-market demand, will characterize the debut generation of touchscreen MacBooks.
The computer is aimed at developers, creative professionals, and individuals handling heavy workloads or large media files. For the majority of purchasers, the base model delivers the fundamental touchscreen functionality minus the extreme expenses tied to maximum memory and storage configurations.
Opting for an 8TB storage drive instead of the 16TB version reduces the fully configured 16-inch model to USD 10,549. While still costly, this alternative significantly closes the distance compared to Apple’s previous flagship price ceiling.
