Amazon introduced an entirely redesigned Kindle lineup, featuring a brand-new base Kindle, Kindle Paperwhite, and Kindle Colorsoft, on October 1, 2026.
This fresh aesthetic stems from a “reverse stack” display approach that equips all three devices with flat, edge-to-edge screens, marking Amazon’s most substantial hardware update in years. Kevin Keith, vice president of devices, noted, “Today, we’re introducing a completely redesigned Kindle lineup.”
Flush Screens, 12-week Battery & Aluminium Backs
Priced at USD 149.99, the entry-level Kindle features a 6-inch screen, 16GB of storage, and lock-screen advertisements. According to Amazon, it opens books 30 per cent quicker than its predecessor. Additionally, a new aluminium variant provides 32GB of capacity and is ad-free.
Retailing from USD 199.99, the Kindle Paperwhite is slimmer, lighter, water-resistant, and boasts a 7-inch display alongside adjustable warm lighting. Its battery life extends up to 12 weeks, and Amazon states it delivers the highest contrast ratio of any Kindle. The Signature Edition, priced at USD 249, incorporates an aluminium rear casing, 32GB of storage, and an automatic brightness sensor.
The Kindle Colorsoft carries a starting price of USD 289.99, featuring a newly engineered screen that Amazon describes as offering paper-like color without standard tablet glare.

Page-turn Accessories, Kids Editions & Release Dates
Alongside the e-readers, Amazon revealed a selection of new accessories. The Kindle Click serves as a Bluetooth page-turning remote compatible with 2024 and later Kindle models for USD 34.99. Furthermore, a Page-Turn cover featuring physical buttons is available for USD 79.99, and a charging dock is priced at USD 59.99.
Every model will also be offered in Kids editions, which bundle kid-approved cases and a one-year subscription to Amazon Kids+.
While the standard Kindle is available immediately in designated regions, preorders for both the Paperwhite and Colorsoft are currently live ahead of their October 28 shipping date. Reports indicate that India was omitted from the initial market rollout.
Amazon reported that Kindle sales have experienced double-digit growth for three consecutive years, with readers turning over more than 720 billion pages throughout 2025.
