Quick-commerce platform Zepto now supports Apple Pay for customers in India, introducing an additional checkout method for orders. This option integrates directly into Zepto’s current payment framework, sitting alongside UPI and other established payment channels.
The rollout follows Apple’s recent introduction of Apple Pay to the Indian market. Presently, the service is restricted to compatible Apple devices and specific Axis Bank Visa and Mastercard credit cards.
How Apple Pay Works on Zepto
When available, qualified customers can choose Apple Pay during the checkout process. The transaction is then verified on the supported device using Touch ID, Face ID, or the device passcode.
Consequently, buyers are not required to type in their card numbers by hand for each order. Instead, the payment sheet leverages the card information already saved inside Apple Wallet.
For in-app and online checkouts, customers simply pick Apple Pay and authorize the payment right on their hardware. Furthermore, Apple Pay prevents the merchant from seeing or storing the actual physical card number during the purchase.
Which Cards and Devices are Supported?
Currently, Apple Pay works exclusively with eligible Axis Bank Mastercard and Visa credit cards within India. Owning a compatible iPhone alone is insufficient without a supported card, though the roster of participating banks and cards is anticipated to grow over time.
In India, Apple Pay runs on eligible Apple Watch, iPad, and iPhone models, with Mac compatibility arriving shortly. iPhone users need an iPhone XR or a newer model operating on iOS 18 or later. For the Apple Watch, requirements begin with Series 6 or newer running watchOS 11 or later.

Apple Pay does Not Replace UPI
Rather than substituting UPI or other conventional payment methods, Apple Pay functions as a supplementary choice on Zepto. Shoppers retain the freedom to use UPI and alternative card transactions as they normally would.
This development coincides with the broader adoption of Apple Pay among merchants nationwide. Payment gateway Razorpay has verified that Apple Pay is now active throughout its merchant network—which includes Zepto—enabling enrolled businesses to accept the payment type without developing a custom payment architecture.
Ultimately, the practical impact for Zepto shoppers is straightforward: qualifying users simply gain another option at the payment screen.
