Tinder has rolled out Group Hangouts, a fresh capability enabling friends to link up with other circles on the dating platform via joint activities and collective chats. This tool expands upon the platform’s Double Date functionality, scaling the social experience up from pairs to groupings of three or more participants.
Currently launching across the United States and designated global markets, Group Hangouts will see further regional expansion soon. Eligible users will spot the feature situated at the top of their Tinder home screen. It operates at no cost and is fully controllable within the application’s configuration settings.
How Tinder Group Hangouts Works
To initiate a Group Hangout, a user sets up a group, selects a designated activity, and brings in a minimum of two friends. As soon as a circle reaches at least three participants, its profile becomes eligible to surface within the Tinder Discovery feed alongside standard individual and Double Date profiles.
Matched groups do not need to mirror each other in head count. Members can scroll through alternative groups and tap a Like. Upon a mutual match—defined as at least one individual from each respective side showing interest—Tinder establishes a combined chat room for all participants, enabling everyone to coordinate plans prior to an offline meetup.
The group profiles displayed are filtered according to a user’s pre-existing Discovery criteria, encompassing shared hobbies and activities. Furthermore, individuals retain the option to either view group listings within Discovery or keep them hidden.
Group Hangouts Builds on Double Date
This addition arrives on the heels of Tinder’s Double Date option, which debuted in June 2025. According to company figures, 90% of individuals utilizing the Double Date function were under the age of 30.
During preliminary pilot testing of Group Hangouts in Australia, 40% of all invitations were successfully accepted. Internal data from Tinder also revealed that women displayed a propensity 2.2 times greater for liking a group profile compared to a standard single-user profile.

Safety and Account Requirements
Every single participant must maintain an individual Tinder account and verify they are 18 years of age or older. Members possess the ability to exit a group chat without dropping out of the broader user group entirely, and they maintain the option to block or report fellow participants.
Standard Tinder safety protocols and moderation systems govern Group Hangouts, incorporating Face Check where accessible. At present, Boosts and Super Likes cannot be applied to Group Hangouts, and certain aspects of the feature remain subject to modification as the rollout continues.
