Ripple and Coinbase have entered into a partnership to bring Ripple USD (RLUSD)—Ripple’s US dollar-pegged stablecoin—to Coinbase’s retail and institutional ecosystems. This collaboration enhances the US distribution of RLUSD and introduces fresh applications for institutional participants.
RLUSD is now accessible via Coinbase Exchange, Coinbase Prime, and the Coinbase Retail application. Users can trade and handle the stablecoin throughout these environments, while institutional customers benefit from enhanced liquidity and comprehensive services.
1:1 Conversion And Multi-Chain Support
Traders have the ability to exchange US dollars and qualifying USD-denominated stablecoins for RLUSD at a strict 1:1 rate, offering both retail and institutional users a straightforward pathway to acquire and utilize the stablecoin inside the Coinbase network.
Depositing and withdrawing will function across three distinct blockchains: the XRP Ledger (XRPL), Ethereum, and Base. This multi-chain capability enables participants to transfer RLUSD between major blockchain ecosystems and deploy it across a broader spectrum of applications.
Additionally, Ripple will supply liquidity on Base to foster the stablecoin’s expansion on that network. Jack McDonald, Ripple’s senior vice president of stablecoins, remarked, “The partnership would make RLUSD available through platforms that institutions already trust.”
The organization anticipates that this integration will enhance market depth and increase the practical utility of the stablecoin for payment processing, trading, and decentralized finance functions.
Stablecoin Push Gains Momentum
Engineered to preserve a steady parity with the US dollar, RLUSD is fully redeemable for greenbacks and supported by a reserve portfolio comprising short-term US Treasuries, cash equivalents, and US dollar deposits.
This integration with Coinbase unfolds amid increasing adoption of stablecoins across financial institutions, payment processors, and blockchain platforms. For Ripple, the agreement broadens the footprint of RLUSD beyond its original network and establishes it alongside other prominent stablecoins operating within the United States.
