Pi Network has successfully wrapped up its Protocol 27 Mainnet upgrade and set October 16 as the deployment date for Protocol 28. Data from CoinMarketCap shows its native token, PI, changing hands at USD 0.09115, registering a 4.29% increase over 24 hours and a 7.2% gain across seven days.
Protocol 27 Completes Another Pi Mainnet Upgrade
Pi Network has officially verified the finalization of Protocol 27 on the Mainnet. After initially aiming for a September 15 rollout, the developers confirmed its completion shortly afterward, following a series of earlier updates this year that included Protocol 26.
According to the project team, Protocol 27 introduces enhanced and flexible authorization methods for smart contract transactions, giving developers a broader set of choices when configuring how applications sign off on transactions.
Although Pi Network previously indicated that Protocol 27 would conclude that specific series of updates, the team subsequently introduced Protocol 28, deployed it to the Testnet, and laid out plans for its October Mainnet release.
Protocol 28 Mainnet Upgrade Scheduled for October 16
The Mainnet transition to Protocol 28 is scheduled for October 16, 2026. The team specified that all node operators are required to upgrade their software by October 13, which is three days prior to the network transition.
Protocol 28 is designed to better manage transaction data delays. Following its Testnet rollout, the team announced that the upgrade will allow developers to update multiple smart contracts simultaneously instead of handling them individually.
Additionally, the upcoming version provides developers with a more secure method for modifying stored data as applications evolve. These operational enhancements center on network maintenance and application development. Pi Network has already transitioned Protocol 28 to the Testnet in anticipation of the Mainnet launch.
Pi Network rolled out the Open Network in February 2025, paving the way for external connectivity and exchange integrations. The upcoming October update builds on the protocol modifications executed by the team throughout 2026.
