According to the Financial Times on Saturday, NVIDIA is currently holding discussions to either increase its financial stake in the open-source artificial intelligence startup Reflection AI or purchase the firm outright, based on insights from individuals directly familiar with the matter.
These negotiations unfold amidst growing momentum for autonomous software development and AI-driven coding assistants, which are capturing the attention of major technology enterprises eager to secure a stronger foothold in a fast-paced market.
NVIDIA Weighs Investment, Acquisition Options
The Financial Times indicated that the negotiations remain in their early stages and could culminate in various outcomes, ranging from an outright purchase to an expanded financial contribution.
An acqui-hire model is another potential pathway under review. In this scenario, rather than buying the enterprise completely, NVIDIA might license its technology and onboard Reflection AI’s staff. This approach might allow the companies to sidestep the prolonged regulatory scrutiny typically triggered by conventional corporate acquisitions.
Sources indicated to the publication that a deal might materialize in the weeks ahead, though they also emphasized that the discussions could ultimately break down.
Reuters was unable to independently confirm the details immediately. Outside of standard business hours, neither NVIDIA nor Reflection AI provided immediate responses to inquiries for comment.
NVIDIA has Already Invested USD 800 Million
As a key strategic backer and financial partner, NVIDIA has already poured USD 800 million into Reflection AI.
Established in 2024 by ex-DeepMind researchers Misha Laskin and Ioannis Antonoglou, Reflection AI builds applications aimed at streamlining software creation—a rapidly expanding focal point within the artificial intelligence sector.
The startup is striving to carve out its niche in a fiercely contested landscape where tech developers are racing to build AI models that can aid in programming and execute intricate assignments autonomously.
In an April interview with CNBC, Reflection AI CEO Misha Laskin revealed that the NVIDIA-supported enterprise was in the process of securing new funding based on a pre-money valuation of USD 25 billion.

Reflection AI Launches First Open-Weight Model
On Monday, Reflection AI debuted Beam, its inaugural open-weight AI model, positioning itself to rival budget-friendly Chinese offerings like DeepSeek and Kimi in the realms of coding and agent-based operations.
The enterprise’s emphasis on automating software engineering aligns with a broader industry push by tech giants aiming to engineer systems capable of managing sophisticated programming duties.
A more formal tie-up or complete buyout by NVIDIA would deepen its footprint in this particular niche of the AI sector. Nevertheless, because these talks are still at a preliminary stage, neither corporation has officially validated any prospective pact.
