If you have never tried baking soda, then you are in for a treat. I have tried baking soda in different ways, to no avail, and the first time I tried it in the bath, it was as good as it gets. I was so excited to use it in so many ways, so I went to the store to buy a few bags. After they had been in there for a little while, I started to get frustrated.
The trouble was that the baking soda didn’t do anything. It just floated around in the bathtub and made no noticeable difference to the water. I had to use a different type of baking soda to make a difference.
The problem with baking soda is that it is so sticky, it can stick to pretty much anything. Its main use is as a coating for fruit that can be stuck to a baking sheet. I don’t know about you, but when fruit starts to stick to my pans and cake, I like to give it a go.
This is because baking soda, like so many other household products, is toxic to humans if not handled properly. It can cause nausea, vomiting, kidney damage, and even death as noted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The problem isn’t baking soda specifically, it’s the lack of awareness about the effects of baking soda on human body. The CDC has done a lot of studies on the subject, and it’s a bit scary. If you have kids that have asthma and have ever seen their parents with a bottle of baking soda in their room, you would have to be pretty confident they have a problem.
The CDC has recently been involved in a debate about the potential dangers of ingesting baking soda. A study published in Pediatrics found that the risk of death increased by about twofold in adult asthmatics who had recently ingested baking soda. Another study found that a little baking soda in someone’s drink could be dangerous, and a third study found that baking soda can make people more susceptible to food poisoning.
And, of course, it’s very important to note that a lot of the research has been in children, and we don’t know for sure what effect the baking soda has on adults. Some people even believe that eating baking, like drinking soda, is a harmless way to boost metabolism. And of course, with some of the research that has been published there are lots of questions about the safety of baking soda in children.
While baking soda is great for you, it isn’t necessarily something that should be used to treat food poisoning. In fact, there is a theory that it may actually do more harm than good. As mentioned in earlier posts, research has shown that people using baking soda for cooking have been found to develop a higher blood-alcohol than people without the baking soda.
