Apple has reportedly refreshed its line of Mac chargers with a newly designed plug system. The updated hardware includes revised versions of the 70W Power Adapter, 140W Power Adapter, and the Power Adapter Extension Cable, all incorporating a freshly introduced interface known as AC Connector 2.
While the physical alteration is subtle, it has significant implications for hardware compatibility. Apple has phased out the previous notched “AC Connector 1” layout in favor of a pill-shaped plug, a modification implemented to comply with evolving regulatory standards.
Travel Kit Returns
In tandem with the updated power adapters, Apple has brought back its World Travel Adapter Kit in the U.S., priced at $39. The package comes with five interchangeable plug heads designed to snap onto the detachable wall plug found on compatible Apple power bricks.
The bundle accommodates Type A plugs (for North America and Japan), Type C (utilized across most of Europe and Brazil), Type D (for India), Type G (for the UK, UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Singapore), and Type I (for Australia and New Zealand).
According to Apple, the kit is compatible with any USB, USB-C, or MagSafe power adapter featuring a removable AC wall plug. This refresh provides a functional solution for frequent travelers and MacBook owners. Because the plug geometry has been altered, legacy extension cords and older travel kits might fail to fit the new AC Connector 2 power supplies.
Shoppers purchasing the updated 70W or 140W adapters should verify that their extension cables and travel kits are fully compatible, as combining older accessories with the latest chargers could result in a mismatch.
What it Means for Buyers
Because the modernized adapters maintain their original power specifications, Apple has made no alterations to overall output capacity or charging velocity. The primary update centers entirely on the detachable plug and its updated compliance layout.
The reintroduction of the World Travel Adapter Kit gives globe-trotting users an easy method for utilizing a single charger in various global regions. Meanwhile, current Mac owners should carefully verify plug compatibility prior to purchasing replacement adapters or extension cables.
