It is one of those things that is true for most of us, but for some of us, it is just another statistic. We may think we are “good” people, but we are not. It is a part of the human condition, but the truth is, with the right mindset and guidance, we can be the people that we are capable of being.
Five percent of your 20 is a pretty decent percentage, but it is still a little much for some of us. If you don’t believe me, try it for yourself. Start a blog, sign up for your local bowling league, or even join a club. Start paying your bills online, don’t wait until your credit is maxed out… and then look up five percent of your 20.
I would say no, but I know this is what most people do. I used to do this, but I got lazy and started doing it because I wanted to get a raise. People who spend too much time worrying about how much money they make or the quality of their work is really not going to be satisfied with five percent of their 20. In fact, I think most of us would be better off with a 20 percent increase in our income, regardless of the quality of our work.
There are also lots of reasons that people don’t want to do this. You might make five percent more money, but you might also make it harder to find work and you might be less proud of your work. In fact, I’ve been watching some of my friends struggle to find work because they are so focused on trying to make five percent more money.
That being said, I do see people being better off with a 20 percent increase in their income, even if they also make less money. You really should be able to make a living wage with a ten percent increase in your income, even if you make less money.
You have to be in the right job to achieve 20 percent more income. Right now, I think it’s better to be in a job where you have to work 70 hours a week than a job where you can work 100 hours a week. If you’re making more money, then you’ll be able to afford more fun things to do and you’ll be able to do them more often.
As it turns out, even if you make less than 20 percent more, you can still make a living wage.
In my free time I enjoy a couple of things: traveling, working on new projects, and just spending time with people. But most of the money I make from those things is from a side hustle. I’ll also spend time with friends and family, work on my photography hobby, and I’ll even help my mother pay for her house.
Money is a funny thing. It can be a wonderful motivator, but you can also feel it can be a major drain on the life force. In my personal life, I make about $3,000 a month from my job at a call center. That’s not nearly enough to live on, but its enough to support me and my family. In my professional life, I make about $15,000 a year from my freelance writing jobs.
I think it’s also important to remember your financial status. If I’m having a rough month and I’m able to survive on less than $6,000 a month, I am probably going to have a lot of fun. But if I’m able to barely scrape by on $3,000 a month…I’m on a much worse financial footing. And that’s not a good thing.
