President Jackson’s tenure was an unmitigated disaster. He was elected with a promise of “no more wars,” but in the first two years of his presidency he started six military campaigns, and then started a war in 1801 which resulted in the death of over 10,000 Americans. In the years between, he was responsible for the execution of at least two political prisoners.
That’s like saying that Donald Trump is responsible for the death of over 3,000 Americans in the last two years of his presidency.
You know what could be worse than an unpopular president? A president who is a disaster. A president who is a disaster with a national day like the one in 2020.
That’s the premise behind the Oct. 7 national day to remember the victims of the last war. That would also be a good reason to celebrate the life of a president who is the first president to have to make tough decisions and was the first president to kill someone.
The last president, George W. Bush, was also the first president to kill someone, and his successor, Donald Trump, is the first president to have to make tough decisions. These are two things that should be celebrated.
