Firefox Gets a Major Makeover: Firefox 157 has arrived featuring what Mozilla describes as its largest visual overhaul in years, delivering a contemporary look, fresh themes, and enhanced flexibility while preserving the browser’s privacy-centric core.
A Fresh New Look: Firefox 157 updates menus, toolbars, tabs, icons, sidebars, and colors through a brand-new design system that lends the browser a much more modern aesthetic.
Compact Mode Returns: Compact Mode enhances space efficiency by minimizing toolbar and tab spacing, offering users extra screen real estate for web browsing—particularly beneficial on smaller screens and split-screen layouts.
New Themes Arrive: Customizing the browser is now simpler with Firefox Themes, introducing new dark and light options alongside wallpapers and themes available via a redesigned theme picker.
New Tab Gets More Flexible: The Firefox New Tab page grants users enhanced command over their homepage, featuring the capability to pin favored websites so essential shortcuts stay readily available.
Sidebar Gets Updated: The Firefox Sidebar now incorporates the updated design globally, though users can temporarily revert to the previous version using an advanced setting while Mozilla continues to polish the experience.
Better Video Performance: Hardware-accelerated AV1 decoding is now supported during WebRTC video calls on compatible hardware, helping cut down on software decoding demands and boosting performance during eligible video sessions.
Privacy Controls Stay Central: Privacy remains a cornerstone of the browser, and Firefox 157 introduces new alerts whenever encryption-key recording is detected, helping users recognize potential traffic-inspection threats.
More Choice, Less Clutter: Firefox 157 also adjusts minor interface behaviors—such as page-dialog styling and keyboard navigation—and removes Amazon as a pre-installed search engine, though users remain free to add it back manually.
