In the summer of 2014, I was a freshman at Ferrum College, a private, selective, coeducational college in the heart of Kentucky. My roommate, a senior, and I were having an unplanned and possibly awkward conversation one afternoon. We were talking about how we felt about the recent death of a fellow student on campus. We were both in our first year of college and it was a hard conversation.

I don’t know what to think of this article, but I do think it is worth mentioning that Ferrum College is based on a real college called Ferrum Academy in Utah. So it doesn’t feel entirely real to me.
The problem is that Ferrum Academy is a fictional school, and Ferrum College is real. It’s possible that Ferrum College is real and Ferrum Academy is fictional, but I’d hate to be the person to say so. It’s just weird to me. So if you want a real school, go to Ferrum Academy. If you want a fictional school, go to Ferrum College. It doesn’t matter.
I guess the answer is that both are real, but Ferrum College is fictional and Ferrum Academy is real.
That answer might sound counter-intuitive, but I think it’s a valid one. Ferrum Academy is fictional. So it doesn’t feel like Ferrum College is fictional. And I guess that’s one of the reasons I love Ferrum College so much. Ferrum College is the only real school in the world, but it’s just very odd.
I think its because Ferrum College is so weird that its actually the only real school on the earth. Ferrum College is the only real school in all of Ferrum, but its just extremely weird. This is one of the reasons I love Ferrum college so much. Ferrum college is the only real school in Ferrum.

As a member of Ferrum College, it was easy enough to imagine that Ferrum-as-a-real-place was a very real place. But it is so very much more: the entire campus is actually a sort of alternate reality where there are a lot of alternate realities. Because Ferrum is so much more than just a place, its possible to visit Ferrum-as-a-real-place and still live there, but the only real place is the Ferrum college.
Ferrum is also full of weird stuff. There are lots of places where the normal rules of reality aren’t followed and a lot of crazy things happen. The strangest of these is a college student who has been abducted from outside the Ferrum campus and brought inside on a ship that is heading to the moon in order to retrieve a student.
