This is one of those board games I’ve never been able to complete, but I’ve been trying to figure out how to play it for ages. I’m not sure if I’m just the type who needs to play other games (although I do have a few other things I like to do besides play video games), or if this is actually a game of some sort. Either way, it’s been sitting in my wishlist for a while now.
Its a lot like the old board games, only instead of playing with pieces, you’re playing against a computer. Each game takes place on an island with your opponent’s computer. Your goal is to kill him before he can kill you.
I don’t know about you, but I’m a total sucker for video games of all kinds. So I’m not sure if it’s just a matter of me being a really nice person or this is the kind of game I would enjoy. I’m sure it’s the latter though. And I also like horror movies more than anything.

It is a video game, and it has some similarities with the old board games, but its not much like the ones of yesteryear. It takes place on an island, but there are no regular board game pieces. Instead, your player moves a small number of pebbles to the islands, and each time he does it, he has a chance to kill his opponent.
I can’t help but think of the original board games of the 80’s as being about avoiding death, and in Deathloop, your goal is to avoid death. I guess I’m just a sucker for the idea of being able to get rid of someone, the way that I once was able to get rid of my brother, who was abusive to me.
Even though Deathloop looks so similar to the original board games, there are important differences. In Deathloop, when you move your pebbles, you’re not actually moving a board game piece. Instead, you’re moving the islands, and you can only do this one time per turn so you need to do it right. All the same, though, the game is still very much in the same spirit as the original games.
I don’t think I’d have the same sort of fondness for board games like Risk or Risk 2 if I were a fan of the first game. When I play Risk, I’m mostly looking at the board, and the cards, and the dice, and the action. I don’t really think about the story. I just play.
I do think I would like to see a board game that was really about story. I might try a game like D&D: First Edition (which I own), and then see how far I can get with an entirely new game that had more story and less action.
